One of my longest favorite things to do is to draw and paint people.  I have never quite known how to describe it, have always felt so called to it, but I can’t remember not wanting to do that at any point in my life.  I have a specific memory would sit at my grand-parents house with a giant stack of computer paper and draw figure skaters on TV for hours and being so happy.  I’ve always been determined to do this for a living.  Even as a child, if I thought of a regular 9-5 job, I immediately get depressed.  But when I thought about working as an artist, I felt extremely happy, and just knew this was my journey.

I’ve learned that I get a certain level of satisfaction being able to help people bring the stories they want to tell, to life, that I can’t really describe other than feeling proud of myself and being really happy I can help others.  All my clients have a very passionate goal with getting their story illustrated, that I love that I am able to help them in a way that is really difficult, as art is really conceptual, and hard to pinpoint with words.  A lot of these projects are gifts for kids, furkids, and grandkids, to connect with them in a way they wouldn’t be able to on their own.

My paintings are always for sale.

I First look at the reference and sketch it out lightly with pencil.  Once that is approved, I start with an overall wash of color, and then spend the rest of the time building out the lights and darks with as much color as I can get in there.
